PRIMARY VS SECONDARY
RESISTANCE

Probably the sharpest distinction the framework has produced. Not everything that pushes back is the same kind of push.

ACTIVE — survives falsification

The Distinction
PRIMARY RESISTANCE
The universe saying no.
Does not care what anyone believes.
Death
No amount of coordination removes it
Aging
Slowed. Not stopped.
Gravity
Physics continues without observers
Entropy
Systems degrade regardless of preference
Hunger
The body makes demands that culture cannot overrule
Scarcity of energy
Physics sets the ceiling
SECONDARY RESISTANCE
Humans coordinating until it feels real.
Maintained by ongoing human effort.
Debt
Requires courts, enforcement, shared belief
Property
Exists because people keep agreeing it exists
Borders
Lines maintained by collective agreement and force
Reputation
Held in other minds; can be destroyed overnight
Platform bans
Real consequences from a policy decision
Bureaucracy
Resistance generated by the complexity of coordination itself
Why This Matters

Many frameworks collapse everything into one category.

Everything is natural.
or
Everything is socially constructed.

This distinction avoids both. Primary resistance cannot be wished away by changing systems. Secondary resistance can — but is held in place by the full weight of coordinated human effort, which can feel just as immovable.

Example — A Mortgage
A single mortgage contains both kinds of resistance simultaneously. You cannot separate them by looking at the experience from inside.
COMPONENT TYPE
Need for shelter
PRIMARY
Material scarcity of building materials
PRIMARY
Time (the loan has duration)
PRIMARY
Credit scoring
SECONDARY
Banking regulations
SECONDARY
Interest rate structures
SECONDARY
Property law
SECONDARY
Zoning rules
SECONDARY
The experience contains both simultaneously. The anxiety of a missed payment is not distinguishable, from the inside, from the anxiety of a famine. Both press.

The Indistinguishability Threshold
One of the strongest unresolved questions.

At what point does Secondary Resistance become experienced as Primary Resistance?

EXPERIENCED AS INEVITABLE:
I must pay taxes. — secondary resistance
I must have a credit score. — secondary resistance
I must work forty hours a week. — secondary resistance

These feel as inevitable as gravity. Yet they are historically contingent. Most people alive today have never lived without them and cannot imagine living without them.

HYPOTHESIS The threshold may be determined by exposure duration, enforcement intensity, and the absence of living alternatives. Once no one remembers a world without it, the secondary becomes experientially primary.
Open Question

If the threshold is real, can it be reversed? Can secondary resistance be experienced as secondary again — once it has crossed into primary experience — or is the crossing one-directional?
